Tab Choir and Church

A trip to Salt Lake City is incomplete without a trip to hear the Tab Choir. We came into town to get to the 9:30 broadcast then visited the visitor center at Temple Square before catching a church survice.

This is the stained glass front of the chapel in the church just to the north-west of the conference center on the first street north of North Temple. This is our old friend's ward (the Hollidays). I love looking at that window.

Salt Lake Downtown Remodel Job

Here are images of the high rises going up directly south of Temple square in downtown Salt Lake City. These shots go from East to West along South Temple.

This one really gets me - mainly condos and sits on the site of our favorite hotel here in SLC - The Inn at Temple Square.

Off to Utah July - August 2010

Well the car is ready and we are off at 8:20 AM - not a bad start time but with a long drive to St. George with a stop in Henderson, Nevada to Richard and Shirley, our former neighbors who just moved a month ago.

You can't go to St. George without stopping by the St. George Temple. In the morning light it was almost too bright to look at without sunglasses.

Another treat was getting to meet Allen Forsyth, my co-trainer, since they live in St. George. They took us out to a scrumptious breakfast and then gave us a tour of some of the newer parts of town. St. George has grown so much since we were here last you almost can't recognize it.

Cove Fort is a stop in central Utah where an early Mormon fort was built to protect travelers from the Indians. The Hinkley family (Gordon B Hinkley's grandparents) were sent there to build the fort and maintain it from about 1868 to 1892 or so. This is the Hinkley house that was actually built in another community of Utah and moved here to represent the kind of 2 room cabin they would have lived in while building the Fort.

So what is the big deal about this fort? Well when my great grandparents, Alexander Wilkins Jr. and Charlotte York Carter traveled to Arizona to colonize the Pima River valey they would have traveled by there and probably spent the night here. I had never realized this until we passed through here this time.

Barbara + 9 days or 54 hours = RETIREMENT!

FTA Union Dinner Party to celebrate the 100+ teachers retiring this year. I calculated somewhere between 4000 and 5000 years of experience being lost to the district this year. Each retiree got a certificate and an engraved glass apple. We "borrowed" one of the table decorations as they said they should go home. Nice party with several teachers from her school.

Go Celtics!

Grandpa and his favorite Celtics loving grandson Bennie. Check out Bennie's retro Celtics t-shirt. I am so jealous. The Celtics - too old, too slow, too crippled, etc. Everyone but Bennie and I had them through for the year. Now we are two games from facing each other in the Championship series. Of course then .....
Bennie and I will become mortal enemies as our two favorite teams (Celtics for Grandpa and the Lakers for Bennie) will face off. At least one of us remain standing and happy in the end.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day Barb - a little slow in posting but I did remember in time. A quiet Mother's Day morning. Not quite breakfast in bed but.....
I loved these Corral colored roses. But then we love all roses.
